Sinuri ng papel na ito ang mga anyo at antas ng pag-asa na nakapaloob sa mga diskurso ng Kilusang El Shaddai. May anim na bahagi ang papel na ito. Una, tinalakay nito ang katauhan ni Velarde at ang kasalukuyang hugis ng kanyang kilusan. Pangalawa, inilahad ang pamamaraang ginamit sa pananaliksik, partikular na ang mga teoryang inilapat sa mga naturang diskurso na hinalaw mula sa kaisipan nina Weber, Bloch, at Mannheim. Pangatlo, gamit ang teorya ni Bloch, sinuri ng papel ang mga elemento ng pag-asa na natagpuan sa mga naturang diskurso bilang mga ekspresyon ng kulturang popular. Pang-apat, gamit ang teorya ni Mannheim, sinuri nito ang tensyon sa pagitan ng ideolohiya at utopiang nilalaman ng mga naturang diskurso, at tiniyak kung may pag-asa nga bang ipinapangako ang kilusan sa larangan ng politikal at panlipunang kaayusan. Panlima, gamit ang teorya ni Weber, sinuri ang mga bakas ng Protestantismong pamumuhay sa mga naturang diskurso na nagsisilbing pag-asa sa larangan ng ekonomiya. Bilang kongklusyon ay ipinaghambing-hambing ang iba’t ibang anyo at antas ng pag-asang natuklasan mula sa mga diskurso ng kilusan at nagdalumat kung ano ang implikasyon ng mga ito sa politika at lipunang Pilipino.

This paper examined the different forms and levels of hope that are contained in the discourses of the El Shaddai Movement. This paper has six parts. First, it explored the person of Velarde and the current shape of the movement that he founded. Second, it laid down its research methodology, particularly the theories that were used in reading the said discourses which were taken from the thoughts of Weber, Bloch, and Mannheim. Third, using the theory of Bloch, the paper identified the elements of hope that are contained in the said discourses as expressions of popular culture. Fourth, using the theory of Mannheim, it examined the tension between ideology and utopia within the said discourses, in order to ascertain if the movement’s hope can promise anything in the field of political and social order. Fifth, using the theory of Weber, this paper examined traces of Protestant ethic in the said discourses that could serve as hope in the field of economics. As conclusion, this paper compared the different forms and levels of hope that were uncovered from the said discourses, and explored their implications on Philippine politics and society.
