Ilang mga Hamon sa Pamilyang Filipino sa Panahon ng Internet

Abstract:

Sa papel na ito ay sinikap na himayin ang iba’t ibang dulot ng Internet sa pamilyang Filipino. Isinagawa ito gamit ang mga lente ng sosyolohiya at pilosopiya. Lumalabas na maraming hamon ang dapat harapin ng pamilyang Filipino sa hindi mapigilang paglawak ng Internet sa ating bansa. Kabilang dito ang epekto ng Internet sa mga asal at paniniwala na importante sa kabuuan ng pamilyang Filipino tulad ng pakikisama, respeto sa magulang at nakatatanda, at ang pangangailangan ng bawat indibidwal na mapabilang sa isang pamilya o grupo; ang pag-usad mula sa Gemeinschaft na oryentasyon patungo sa mas-Gesellschaft na lipunan; at ang konsepto ng clannishness and close kinship ties at ang relasyon nito sa paglawak ng social network ng mga miyembro ng pamilya. Inusisa rin ang pagbukod at pagbuklod na maaaring mangyari sa pamilya: ang paglaganap ng anti-social behavior na dulot ng adiksyon sa Internet, at ang pagbuo ng komunidad na virtual ng mga pamilyang Filipino. Binigyan-diin din ang konsepto ng identidad na laganap sa virtual na mundo, at ang koneksyon nito sa pagkakaintindi natin kung bakit nahuhumaling ang maraming tao sa paggamit ng Internet. Sa pinakahuling seksyon ay tinalakay ang pagpasok ng trabaho o kompanya sa ating kabahayan dahil sa Internet, at ang mabuti at di-mabuting epekto nito sa mga pamilya.

This paper examines the various effects of the Internet on Filipino families. Using the combined lens of sociology and philosophy, this paper puts forth the idea that several challenges must be faced by the Filipino family in the Internet age. Among these are: the effects on traditional Filipino beliefs and values that shape family relations, such as pakikisama (social cooperation), respect for elders, and the need for a support system; the Internet’s influence on the move from a Gemeinschaft orientation to Gesellschaft in Filipino society; and the concept of clannishness and close kinship ties and its relation to the widening social network of the members of the family. This paper also analyzes both the unity and compartmentalization that may happen in the family: the spread of anti-social behavior because of Internet addiction, and the production of a virtual community by Filipino families. Emphasis is also given to the concept of identity in the virtual world, and its connection to Internet addiction. Analysis of the effects on the family of working at home through the Internet is discussed in the final section.
