Abstract:

The attitude and behavior of the recovering drug dependents towards drug addiction in one of the three drug rehabilitation facilities of Cagayan de Oro City, Mindanao,Philippines were studied as basis for an enhanced management intervention program. The study used the descriptive correlational design utilizing a validated researcher-made questionnaires to gather the needed data from 60 respondents who consented to participate in the study. Results showed that they had acquired negative attitude and behavior towards the use of drugs which imply a very low tendency to relapse. However, with these low levels of tendencies, the recovering drug dependents were still somewhat fascinated of the feelings of enjoyment, merriness, and calmness when using drugs. They also claimed to have troubles in managing their behaviors such as finding inner peace as well as in engaging in physical activities to maintain healthy behaviors as prevention from drug usage. Moreover in terms of marital status a significant difference on the attitude towards using drugs was observed. A proposed enhanced emotional management intervention program has to be designed to effectively address the concerns of the recovering drug dependents in the facility being studied.
