Parental Involvement During COVID-19 Pandemic In Relation to Pupils’ Academic Performance: Inputs to A Proposed Management Plan

Abstract:

parental involvement and related it with pupils’ academic performance. Specifically, this study sought the extent of involvement of parents in facilitating the education of their children in terms of parenting, communicating, volunteering, learning at home, decision-making, and collaborating with the community. Pupils’ academic performance for School Year 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 and the challenges encountered by parents in facilitating the education of their children were also determined. This descriptive-survey research used questionnaire and documentary analysis in data gathering. The respondents were teachers and parents from selected public elementary schools in Catanauan Districts I and II in the Division of Quezon. Frequency, percentage, weighted mean, and ANOVA were used as statistical tools to process the data and provide inputs for the output of the study which was a proposed management plan to maximize parental involvement in facilitating education of their children. Results revealed that parental involvement is greatly evident and pupils had increasing performance based on their Mean Percentage Score. Likewise, the findings bared that poor educational background and poor health condition are the challenges encountered by parents in facilitating the education of their children.
