Discipline: Teacher Training

Abstract:

The age of artificial intelligence has brought drastic changes in the educational landscape given that the classroom environment is dynamic as ever because it always adapted real-world possibilities. Mother Tongue-Based Multilingual Education (MTB-MLE), the Philippines official language policy, provided flexibility for learners and teachers, and by looking through teachers practices and strategies which are integral to student learning is also an important factor given that technology especially AI has now interfered in the teaching-learning process. This examined the practices of teachers in multilingual classrooms on their implementation of MTB-MLE and how does AI interfere and can become useful in the classrooms. The study employed interview questions and findings suggested that English and other subjects taught using English through collaboration, translation, translanguaging, use of materials that can enhance learners’ understanding such as graphic organizers, pictures, and authentic assessment strategies, Further, several enhancements can be derived for capacity building of teachers, instructional materials, assessment tools, and program sustainability.
