Acceptability Assessment of Community Extension Project of a Public University

Abstract:

Southern Leyte State University encourages its departments to implement extension programs. This study evaluated the A&S department’s integrated community extension programs. This study assessed the projects as to: responsiveness to community’s needs, development of sustainability and selfreliance, people’s opportunity to become productive, and effectiveness of technology in bringing socio-economic changes; evaluate projects’ acceptability; and, people’s willingness/readiness to give counterpart. This descriptive survey using random sampling was conducted at Mahayahay, Sogod, Southern Leyte using researcher-made checklist in interviewing 300 respondents and the most significant change technique. Majority considered the projects as very-much responsive; much developed sustainability and self-reliance; gave people very high opportunity to become productive; and very much effective in bringing socio-economic changes. Rated very much acceptable were: concreting/finishing/ painting of daycare center; constructing/concreting/tiling of toilet and cooking/ dishwashing area; digging of drainage canal, landscaping, installing electric light and water system. Also, very much acceptable were: feeding; room structuring and giving of visual aids and TV set; literacy for children and capability building for adults; cooking/catering and beauty culture; conducting the candidates’ forums; and giving of educational supplies. Environmental renewal was frowned. Majority highly accepted and well-liked the projects. Community officials were willing to give counterpart, and were thankful if they would receive more projects.
