Discipline: others in psychology
Abstract:
This study was conducted to determine the best-fit path model on the psychological well-being of students as estimated
by parents as social context, social skills and emotional intelligence of senior high school students among public
schools in Region XI. The study used descriptive correlational research using path analysis. The 400 students were
determined using the stratified sampling procedure. Mean, Pearson r and path analysis were used as statistical tools.
Results showed that the level of parents as social context, social skills and psychological well-being of students were
high while emotional intelligence was very high. Findings indicated that parents as social context, social skills and
emotional intelligence were significantly correlated with the psychological well-being of students. Model 3 came out
as the best-fit path model that predicted the psychological well-being of students and it was significantly influenced
by social skills of students, parents as social context and emotional intelligence. Social skills of students revealed a
significant predictor of parents as social context while emotional intelligence showed a significant correlation with
students’ social skills. Hence, schools may consider enhancing the psychological well-being of students by developing
their social skills and enhancing their emotional intelligence. Also, parents’ engagement in school activities may be
encouraged.
