A Case Study on Transformational Leadership and Organizational Culture in the Motorcycle Industry in the Philippines

Abstract:

The ability of businesses to innovate and engage employees is often hindered by stagnation and resistance to change, particularly in industries requiring adaptability and competitive agility. This study investigates transformational leadership and organizational culture in the neonate Philippine motorcycle sector, where the pace of technological development is rapid while consumer preferences are constantly changing. The research design employed descriptive correlation while purposive sampling was used to gather the data from fifty (50) rank-and-file employees under the direct experience of leadership influence and the workplace culture. Purposive sampling was the procedure needed to locate those who could provide insights into the actual state of events heavily affected by managerial decisions and leadership styles. Data showed that considerations of transformational leadership, such as idealized influence, inspirational motivation, intellectual stimulation, and individualized consideration, were rated very high. Likewise, the highest score was given to culture in terms of involvement, consistency, mission, and adaptability. On the other hand, the relationship between transformational leadership and organizational culture was found to have a positive and very significant correlation (p < 0.01), meaning that organizational culture is strengthened as transformational leadership strengthens. Both theoretical and practical contributions arise from this study. From the theoretical perspective, the findings support Bass & Avolio's Transformational Leadership Model and Denison's Organizational Culture Framework, establishing that strong leaders promote adaptability, consistency, and innovation in organizations. From the practical perspective, business leaders are presented with immediate actions to pursue the necessity of leadership development programs to nurture a resilient, innovation-based workplace culture. These findings can guide motorcycle industry leaders seeking to sustain competitiveness and foster the longer-term success of the organization.
