Discipline: Sociology

Abstract:

This research was conducted to establish the effectiveness of the community police aid stations and their contribution towards preventing crime in the six (6) Iloilo City districts. The respondents of this research were one hundred fifty (150) residents of the six (6) Iloilo City districts, who were randomly selected using simple random sampling. They were measured as a single group and classified by age, sex, and educational qualification. The study utilized a descriptive-correlational research design to describe the existing conditions and determine the relationship between the effectiveness of community police aid stations and crime prevention. This design was used to determine the degree of association between the identified variables. Measures used to set descriptive statistics included the mean and standard deviation to ascertain the level of availability of community police help centers and their influence on crime suppression. Spearman's rho test was employed to establish the relationship between variables. The level of significance was fixed at 0.05 alpha. The findings showed that the extent of community police assistance centers, as a general category and when segmented by demographic profile, was at a high level. Similarly, their contribution to crime prevention, when segmented by the same profile, was at a high level. Finally, a positive correlation was found between the existence of community police assistance centers and their contribution to crime prevention. Encouragement and reinforcement of community policing through ongoing intervention are therefore advised to ensure a sustained impact on crime prevention, based on these findings.
