Discipline: human resource management
Abstract:
This study examines how emotional competence and job resilience influence work performance among hospitality industry employees, providing insights into employee retention and performance strategies in the post-pandemic recovery era. Using a quantitative descriptive-correlational design, the research involved 75 employees from hotels and restaurants in Cagayan de Oro City. Purposive and convenience sampling methods ensured participant relevance and accessibility. Findings revealed that higher emotional competence and job resilience are associated with improved work performance. Emotional stability and adaptability emerged as key predictors of success in stressful work environments, provided proper management support exists. These results align with Emotional Intelligence Theory, highlighting the role of emotional awareness and regulation in enhancing job outcomes. Additionally, the findings support the Constructivist Self- Determination Theory, illustrating how resilience helps employees maintain performance by enabling them to navigate workplace challenges. This study underscores the importance of fostering emotional intelligence and resilience in hospitality employees to build a sustainable workforce and improve organizational outcomes during challenging times.
