Exploring the Relationship Between Academic Performance and Student Satisfaction in the Science-Based Curriculum Program

Abstract:

This study aims to assess the academic performance and level of satisfaction of the graduates from the Science Based Curriculum (SBC) program of the University of the East – Caloocan. Data were collected from the Grade Weighted Averages (GWA) of participants who graduated from Junior High School (JHS) from 2017 to 2023, including a satisfaction questionnaire that were distributed to current students. Employing descriptive-correlational methods, the study analyzed responses from 39 out of 48 enrolled students. Findings revealed an overall satisfaction mean of 4.29 (Very Satisfied) and outstanding academic performance with a mean GWA of 92.99 for Grade 10. The result showed that there is no significant relationship between the students' level of satisfaction with the SBC program and their academic performance as indicated by a weak negative correlation (Spearman rank = 0.163, p = 0.399). These results highlight the need for further investigation into the determinants of academic achievement and satisfaction level within the SBC program. The findings of this study underscore the importance of promoting the SBC program for incoming Grade 7 students and establishing ongoing support for SBC graduates. To enhance the program's effectiveness, school administrators should consider improving the school facilities like classrooms and laboratories and creating a specialized section within the STEM strand and offering scholarships for college, ensuring that these well-trained students continue their education at the university level.
